    Off the Vine Englewood

    My sister took me out for a wonderful birthday celebration, just her and I.  We used to do everything together.  We even lived together.  Then we had children.  This was one of the first times with have been together without kids in years!  It was nice to sit and chat, catch up.  Thanks Sis!

    She took me to a fantastic wine bar, the decor was purely Parisian, I loved it!  It is called Off the Vine and it owned by a sweet girl living out her dream.

    We ordered a meat and cheese plate, I got to try some cured meats that I had only heard of on Top Chef.  They were pancetta and proscuitto.  The cheese selection was yummy too.  Brie, mozzarella, chipotle cheddar and Stilton with apricot (so delicious).  Every bite was so delectable.

    I was a great way to spend the day with my Sister.  Oh yeah, only later did I find out this date was part of a plan to get me away while they setup my surprise party!  What a surprise, I was overwhelmed.  Thank you Mom, Sis, Dear Hubby and all the Family that was there!

    Rock N Dogs

    Rock N Dogs at Mission Trace in Lakewood is a great place to eat.  It is always clean, the food is always delicious and the service is friendly.  The atmosphere is fun and super cool for any music fan.  We took the kids there recently and were more pleased than ever.

    My husband ordered the ‘Shroom Burger, I got the Wedge Salad and our children all ordered Corn Dogs.  Everything was so good, I don’t thin k 1 bite was left.

  • Super Mario Birthday Party

    Birthday parties are what you do when you become a parent.  Who knew?  It can be daunting with so many details, so much money.  For the first few years I had always felt obligated to reserve a “place” to go for my kids birthday parties.  These last 2 years, though, have changed my mind and scope.  I decided to start doing backyard birthday parties.  Nothing beats them, I promise.  Homemade games and activities with a relaxed environment, you don’t have to leave at a certain time and when the party is over – you’re already home!

    My nephews birthday was the most recent in our family and my sister approved his request for a Super Mario Birthday party.  She headed to Pinterest, of course, and was thoroughly inspired.

    Cloud Balloons, Mystery Boxes hanging – one for each guest which they soon found out had each birthday guests name on them! Each Mystery Box was a gift bag.

    The children loved getting to make their own personal pizza, rolling the dough and all!

  • Tragedy in Aurora – What to do?

    Tragedy has stuck Colorado once again.  I woke up in the middle of the night to send an email that was on my mind and I decided to check Facebook real quick.  The most Recent Story was my local news channel reporting the theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado at the midnight premiere of Batman. Then I see my cousin posted about it and was listening to the police scanners.

    How terrible a tragedy.

    People innocently celebrating the return of an all time Super Hero.  My heart hurts when I think of the jovial mood… the young kids and teens, the young adults.  I am sure happiness filled the air.  Then all of it shattered in an instant.

    71 people shot, 12 dead.

    Some were dressed up in costumes, they were so vulnerable, nobody could have ever seen this coming.  So what do we do?  What is the most important thing we can do?  PRAYER of course.  Prayer for the victims who are dealing with injuries, the witnesses who will be scarred for life, the families of the departed ones, the responders…  and our Nation.

  • A Hike Up Waterton Canyon

    Living in Colorado, we are never lacking a place to spend the outdoors!  We especially love the mountains.  So many trails, parks, rivers, it is a dream living so close to it all.

    One place we love to go is hiking in Waterton Canyon in the foothills of the Rockies.  My husband took the boys there recently and they spent 4 hours, hiking, fishing, climbing and exploring.

  • Think About These Things

    In today’s world, every other minute my mind is taken off my Creator, the triune God.  When I know the things we read in the Bible are true, what can lure my thoughts away from Him?   He is love, grace, mercy, justice, everything, He is the Alpha and Omega.

    Sadly, just about anything snares my thoughts, steals my mind from Him.  I need Him to guide me every second.  How can I keep Him at the top of my mind?  In Philippians He tells us what to keep our minds on,

    Philippians 4 8

    Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

    It is pretty clear.  This verse is a good reminder, one to keep at the forefront, memorize it and even print it out.  For me, this will be one I need to say everyday, probably more than once.  O God, direct my path.

  • Backyard Fun

    Now that we have the luxury of a backyard I am always looking for fun stuff to do or setup for the boys back there.  Our latest venture was inspired by Pinterest, of course.  It is little town setup for the boys to drive their Hotwheels and Matchbox cars around in.  I used to love to play with my brothers cars out in the yard, I would literally spend hours out there.  When i saw the ideas for creating a place for cars to cruise, I was pumped.

    My oldest was the most excited, he jumped right on board.  He went to the room to gather supplies like buildings and roads from his Thomas the Train set.  I went to the recycle bin looking for boxes.  We met out in a spot in the yard.  It was a great spot because the grass didn’t grow there so it is dirt.

    I had so much fun setting this up with Preston.  Once we were done we invited the little brothers to come play with it.  They were amazed by it!

    It’s the simple things.  What a fun day!
