  • Valentine’s Date – a Photo Essay

    D&F Clock Tower Downtown Denver

My husband and I usually do not do anything fancy for Valentine’s Day, maybe some candy and chocolates and a special homemade dinner.  But this year when I saw a Living Social Deal for a Wine Tasting for 2, I couldn’t pass it up.

We went on Saturday afternoon the day after Valentine’s Day for or Valentine’s Date and since it was downtown we were quite excited about walking around, taking pictures and enjoying our time together.  So that is how I decided to share our evening, in pictures.

    Love you Honey!

  • End of Summer Moments to Remember

One of my favorite blogs, one of the blogs that was a huge help early in my homeschool journey is 1+1+1=1.  I was at her site recently and I came across a link-up that sounds  fantastic.

    Here is the description:
“Moments to Remember was developed as a simple way to look back on our week as homeschoolers and find photos that encompass the memories we want to remember.
The week may have been tough, there may have been more bumps than smiles, but in the end these are the moments that keep us going, the ones we need to remember.”

I love this idea.  Especially since I know this blog is basically my journal, something I can look back on in the years to come.

This week was our last week of Summer, we start school on Monday.  We headed downtown for some family fun…

    My youngest also turned four!

Here’s to a fantastically fun Summer, now on to School and my favorite Season of all Fall!

  • First Time Family Pictures

We finally did it! Thanks to Facebook, I recently saw some gorgeous photos of families I know. I just had to get ours done too. We have never had professional pictures done, now I couldn’t resist. I wanted some nice pics of the whole family. So we did it!

I contacted the photographer who took the pictures of the other families, her name is Lisa with LiLo Photography.   She set us up to meet at a local Museum that has a working farm, great place to snap pics.

Can I just tell you that I LOVE the pictures?  I was so nervous because honestly I didn’t know if my boys would cooperate.  My 2 little ones did not cooperate after about 15 minutes, lol.  I was unsure if they gave her any good shots.

Well folks that is what Professionals are for!  Of course she captured perfect pics of them.  So thankful!!

If you are in the Denver area, I highly recommend her.  She has an amazing portfolio that you can view online at Facebook (please “Like” her, you will love the pics she posts) or on her website.

She made us feel comfortable right away.  She introduced herself to the boys and made them feel special, thank you for that Lisa!

  • Turning 8

    I am 8 Preston

My oldest turned 8 this past week and  we did things a little different this year.  Usually we do the whole party thing, but I thought it was time for some more meaningful time with people he loves.  I asked him if he wanted to have each Grandma take him on a date and then we would let him choose a friend to take to our local amusement center.

He loved the idea and so I let our families know the scoop, they were game!

The night before his birthday my Mom picked him up and they headed straight for the “toy aisle”.  Preston picked out his favorite toy – building bricks.  He picked out a Star Wars set and a Transformer set.  Then they headed to his favorite restaurant of all time, Country Buffet.  My boy loves steak, potatoes and salad, he is in heaven there.  Next they headed to the shoe store for some new tennies and for one more special treat, they went to her house and built one of his new sets together.  He had a fantastic time!

The following morning was his birthday so I made him smiley face pancakes complete with M & M eyes.

After breakfast we headed to his favorite playground for some serious fun.

  • Stopping to Smell the Roses, Literally!

The Rose Garden at Hudson Gardens

I love flowers, I love gardening.  Before I had kids, most of my time was spent gardening.  I researched, planned, plotted and planted.  Fast forward 8 years and I have no time to garden, I figure I will be able to do it again once my kids are a little older.

Until then, I get my flower fix at my local public garden, called Hudson Gardens.  30 acres of God’s beauty in nature.  It’s almost heaven!

I wandered through the Rose Garden and snapped some shots of my favorites.

  • Fun in the Sun

    Preston Cowboy
The weather here in Colorado is crazy! One day it is 70 , the next it is snowing and freezing, then back to 70 the next day. Seriously!

Last week on one of the so-so days we had some fun outside. Wasn’t too cold, wasn’t too hot.

The boys did floor puzzles on the sidewalks, we colored the sidewalks with chalk. We ate lunch on a blanket in the grass, fun! To top it off… the boys went for the costume drawer, which is always a hit.

  • Super Duper Sweetness

As you may have seen from an earlier post, my son and I went on a date recently.  We had a really great time.  I wanted to share with you, a sweet, intimate moment between the 2 of us.  While at a restaurant I excused myself to use the restroom.  When I came around the corner to our booth, my son was sitting in my seat, I watched for a second and realized he was taking pictures of himself with the camera.  I sneaked up behind him and joined in the pictures, he never knew I was behind him.

When I sat down he told me to look at the pics on the camera.  I told him he should look with me.  He was so surprised to see me in some of the pics, he loved it.  BUT THE BEST PART … I had another surprise coming too.  While looking through them I realized that in each picture he is signing a word to form I LOVE YOU, through the succession of pictures.

    Here they are:

  • a Date with My Boy

    Denver

This past weekend I took my 7 year old on a date to downtown Denver.   I secretly bought a Groupon to see the Imagination Movers live.

**Disclaimer – I had no clue who they were, my poor boy was the oldest one there, by far! He was not that amused, although he started to enjoy the show**

We started by taking the light rail, then off to explore Downtown, ate some chocolate cake, watched the show, and topped it off with a big bucket of movie theater popcorn for the ride home on the light rail.

  • Brotherly Love

    happy people
    Happy!

My 7  year old attends a weekly club for boys.  He loves it and his Daddy is a helper so it provides a fantastic time for them to bond.

Last week each boy was given $2 and challenged to use the money for someone else.  To do an unselfish thing with it.  When he came we discussed some possibilities that he might choose from.  He thought about it and said he thought of another thing.

He said that he wanted to buy his little brother a piece of his favorite pie from the Pie Shop across the street from our house.  My first thought was that wasn’t the exact idea here, but I stopped myself.  He loves his brother but he is not one to put his brother first, ever.  So I thought this really was a kind, unselfish act.

How cool that I got to see it play out!  I took them to the pie shop and let them order, pay and eat alone while I waited in the car.  I noticed the oldest cleared the table for the workers too – BONUS!

  • A Delicious Gift from God

What’s not to love about avocados? They might be the most delicious super-food in the world.

    Avocado and Crackers

    Avocado snack

Healthy snacks that my kids like are sometimes hard to come up with.  One thing that has proved to be a favorite is avocados. Avocados, like many fruits and vegetables, amaze me. That you can walk up to a tree, pick a fruit, cut it open and enjoy it fascinates me. Avocados are creamy, light, and delicious.

    Sliced Avocado
    Cut Avocado

The possibilities are almost endless.  Some ways we like to use them:

    • Guacamole – mashed with garlic salt, chili powder, splash of lemon and salt
    • Sliced on sandwiches and burgers
    • Diced and served with eggs, sliced tomatoes and toast
    • Served with chips or crackers
    • Eaten with a spoon

Unfortunately they are expensive but sometimes we can find them for $1.00. I picked some up and we enjoyed them the good old fashioned way.
