  • I Finally Learned How to Put on Makeup!

Thanks to Carissa the Makeup expert, I now, at 37 know how to put on makeup! I am so excited about this. Truth is, I never really learned how to properly put on makeup- just started playing around with it in Jr. High, taking my cues from friends and Madonna, lol.

Last week, on Colorado Parent Magazine’s Facebook page there was a post that piqued my interest. It was to recruit 5 local moms, in different stages of motherhood. They wanted the Mom’s to attend a Make-Up Swap and Session with Carissa of Carissa Beauty, a Make Up Artist. Carissa is also the Walmart beauty expert. She has done makeup for Trista Suttons appearance in Womens World Mag. and others around Denver. Carissa was awesome!

I arrived at a really cool, modern studio where Elitches used to be. It is called StudioWed and brides to be can come for one-stop shopping for vendors of all things bridal… It is so cute, welcoming and just nice on the eyes!

I was a bit nervous walking in, but that quickly went away. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We sat a round table with mirrors at each seat. Carissa had one Mom go up and be the model. The rest watched and then followed along with our own make-up. What I really loved is that she had us use our own make-up. This was huge, because I thought that I had bought a bunch of junk – turns out I was wrong! I had thought that I would probably need to go buy new make-up after the session. I was so wrong! I used my own make-up and it actually looked good! Yeah Carissa!! Truly a feat I did not think was possible.

After we learned all about make-up and how to apply, Carissa took us to the swap table. WOW! What a great idea. She hosts Make-Up Swap parties, you bring any unused products and trade for other great products that others have brought. I made out with Oil of Olay Revitalize Firming Cream, an eyeshadow brush and some fancy lipgloss!

All in all- FUN, INFORMATIVE, HELPFUL!

Thanks to Colorado Parent Magazine and Carissa Beauty from the hookedonbeauty.com blog !

    Pictures to follow shortly!

  • I Did It!

So you may not know that I am a computer tech by trade, have been in the I.T. biz for over 13 years now. Whew! Over the past few years my husband and I dove into html, flash and some other web tools. We started updating sites for companies after we got good and now, I created a client website, all on my own! From scratch! Ok well almost scratch. I started with a basic template and went on from there. It was super time-intensive, but it was fun! Now I have 3 more in the making. Check out my first official solo project: www.myradiantwedding.com

    Feedback, please!

  • Okay Nevermind

It is what it is. Even as much as I don’t like that saying, I have to say. it is what it is.

Remember the camera I wrote about? Well it turns out the girl that was going to sell it to me can’t find it, she said her husband thinks she sold it last summer. :O(

I was really, truly bummed as I read the email. My dreams of finally having an awesome camera were dashed. My dreams of taking beautiful pictures of my kids, food, and nature – gone. But, oh well. It is what it is. For now I will keep on keeping on. Also, my husband won a flip from Lloyds Barbershop. I used it for the bread pictures, not bad at all!

  • I’ll Be Honest

I have always wanted to be a photographer. I always figured I would buy a supernice camera someday and then self-teach. Well that day still has not come, currently I look at the pictures I have posted and they just are not up to par. Especially if you look at what blog pictures should like like. Currently I am using my mother-in-laws camera which is a Kodak Easyshare with no working display. It’s a challenge to say the least.

So I decided to just put it out there and see what I could come up with. Looking at craigslist the cheapest, nicest setup would be around $300 for a used one. It was then that I decided to hop on over to the WANTED section of craigslist. I offered $100 and received a response within the hour! She is a wedding photographer and has a sweet Canon Powershot that she used before she bought her SLR. She has even offered to give me a quick lesson and some tips when I pick it up! I am so very excited. I can’t wait to learn, to experiment, to bake and take pictures and most of all to capture great pictures of my boys! Thanks Craigslist!

  • Why I said Goodbye to TV

For years and years I was a queen of TV, I had my lineup every night. I would work all day, do some gardening then head in for 4 hours of TV. You name it, I watched it… Reality TV, nighttime Soaps, gameshows, etc. I would even screen calls and not take them if the show I was watching was interesting (sorry honey!). Sad I know. Only I didn’t realize how sad until I started weening myself. Not a self-ween, mind you. It was having children, that was my original reason for not having a ton of screen time. But as time went on, I started realizing how much time I had truly wasted on nothingness. Garbage, refuse. While my oldest was younger we always had 2 tv’s in our house. Cable, DVR, DVD player, Netflix account. As time had gone on some more I had no desire to watch TV but I found myself turning it on when I would enter a room that had a TV. We finally decided to do away with it once and for all. We gave away our TV’s, canceled cable and netflix ($100 a month!) and we have been TV free for about 2 years now. What a life change. What an eye-opener. If you love TV I would suggest intentionally turning it off and try doing something different (crafting, organizing, call a friend/relative to catch up, you name it, the possibilities are endless). Unplug for a little while.

Ok so in my title I said “Why I said goodbye to TV (well almost)” – Now for the almost – The internet provides access to virtually any show … so for now I do admit I still catch Top Chef, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and The Office online. Good thing with watching online – it is on my terms, I don’t get taken captive.

    Anyway, for what it’s worth!

  • Here We Go!

For months I have been truly inspired by a friend to start blogging. I created my blog months ago but I get so intimated when comes time to write. The very first post you read on here was from July 2009 it is now Feb 2010. I recently found this awesome blog on my friends blog and it rekindled my desire to blog…. I don’t want to lose any more time.

I only barely passed English Composition and I always let that get the best of me. Now, inspired once again – I shall write and not worry about how “pretty” it looks. I want to share, I want to journal, so hop on and let’s see where this goes! Please try to overlook my errors and enjoy!
