  • A Great Ladies Night Out!

    painting class
Recently, thanks to Living Social I had a fantastic afternoon out with my Mom and Sister.  I must say that since Groupon started it all, we have been able to do things we would never do.

This deal was for a painting class that includes a glass of wine, so it is called Painting and Sipping.  Sounded fun.  I have always wanted to paint on canvas but would never, ever go buy all the supplies.  We have plenty of poster paint, finger paint and water colors but nothing fancy.

This was a great opportunity to get my hands dirty so to speak.

I sent the link to my Mom and she was in, she also  bought one for my sister to join us.  You can go to their website and look at a calendar and see the subject that is to be taught that day.  Some are flowers, Van Gogh, Water Sunsets, French Rivera, Snowflakes, Dandelions, Sisters, and some others.

We went to a session they call “Standing Tall”… Here is the artists picture:

The studio is located in LoHi (Lower Highlands) close to the restaurant Lola.  We walked into a great space with rustic wood floors, high ceilings and artists stations set up everywhere.

Once everyone has put paint on a plate and had a seat, the artist goes up and starts instruction.  She then walks around and helps you individually and returns to the front for the next step.

We all enjoyed it very much.  It was really fun and relaxing.

Here are the final products (one note I must mention, our paint dried before we could blend so the reult with a bright flash looks like a striped background.  To the naked eye the stripes are not that dramatic,*steps off of soapbox*):

The do look lovely in our homes, what a great treasure packed with memories of a fun date with my Mom and Sis … Thanks Ladies!!

I highly recommend trying a painting class, just one session is fun!  If you love it sign up for more.

We went to Sipping and Painting in Denver.

  • Redbox – DID U KNOW??

I love Redbox, love it!  We pick 1 or 2 movies up every other week, can’t beat it.  It’s not like the days of the video store packed on weekend nights. You walk right up, pick your movie, swipe your card, done – 2 minutes tops and only a dollar each!

    Redbox

The last time we rented 2 movies watched them and when we were running out the door we could only find 1 case.  At the time, since we were leaving, I told my husband that we could just rent another movie and change out the case so we would have more time to find the lost one.  Fast forward several days – We totally forgot, couldn’t find it, figured we would have to buy the movie. But nope, little did we know Redbox has prepared for lost cases.

Summary for our lost Redbox case dilema:

I went to Redbox.com, come to find out… You can buy an empty case right out of any Redbox for just a dollar, guess I never noticed that before.

I was so happy!  Thought I would pass it on in “case” you didn’t know.

  • A Good Backup

    “Mommy I’m here” from ThinkGeek

    Kids Tracking Device

We have all had it happen in the blink of an eye and we always say “they were just right here”. You have felt that panic hit you when you don’t know where your little one is. Obviously nothing replaces a parents watchful eye but it is a good idea to have back-ups in motion. I came across this product from ThinkGeek.com, one of my favorite sites for finding unique gifts.

You attach the little bear to your child’s shoe or belt loop and you hold a keychain sized receiver.  If your child goes more than 25 feet away from you the alarm sounds.   Whether you are at the mall, park, gatherings you can keep track of your child if you have to turn your attention to a sibling for a moment.  I think it is a really good idea, why not use to add an extra measure of safety.

  • Free Lamination at Mardel this Week

I love to laminate and with a Mardel store right down the street it is so easy and economical at .25/foot. mardelLaminating flash cards, lapbook materials and charts will ensure they will last a long time, ideally throughout the homeschool years in our family.

This week is Lamination Week at Mardel.  They even have a cute video series called “Will it Laminate?”, where they run Facebook followers suggestions on putting random items through the laminator.

Head to Mardel now through September 11th for 25 feet for FREE, that’s right 25 FEET OF LAMINATION FOR FREE!   Thanks Mardel!  I went this morning and acutally used 42 FEET, only had to pay for 17′.

  • File System for Homeschooling

Many of my days recently consist of organizing.  That includes creating file folders, laminating, hanging, etc.  I have Sonlight’s curriculum so everything is contained within the binder.  However, when materials are needed for certain lessons I wanted to have everything ready to go.

I went surfing the net and came across www.manylittleblessings.com.  She has a file system that consists of file folders labeled Weeks 1 – 36 and then behind those she has January – December.  I like this method, when I go thru the lesson book I will file any additional items, cutouts, color pages, etc into the appropriate week.

    www.manylittleblessings.com

Mardel has another Education Sale going on until August 5th.  I picked up the Filetastic I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, it is on sale for $5!  I also snagged some cool file folders, 12 for $5.  I only bought 1 pack so I will be going back for 2 more packs.

only $5 at Mardel until 8/5

  • Too Good To Pass Up

There is a place that I have frequented for years but haven’t truly reflected on the value of this place.  It is probably the best place in town to get your moneys worth, to stretch your dollar.  It is Mrs. Bairds Bread Store, or as it is better known as “the day old bread store”.

I stopped going there for awhile, only because we had moved further away from it. However, after getting stale bread from King Soopers bakery one too many times, I vowed to never buy bread there again.  I was so fed up with paying full price for bread only to have it taste stale and crumble, forget about making toast.

Back to Mrs. Baird’s I went.  With three boys it is essential to get the most for our money where groceries are concerned so why I waited so long to go back, I don’t know.  The prices are amazing and I have yet to get actual stale bread there.  Like I said I have bought stale bread more than once at King Soopers.  Also, at the bread store you get a punch card, once it is filled you get 2 free breads.  Another bonus, when you spend over $6.00 you get a free product (bread, bagels, muffins, buns).

My last trip there I spent $12.48 – here is what I bought:

    1 – 2pk mini Boboli

5 loaves of Orowheat bread (Country White and Country Potato)

    1 dozen – Entenmanns donuts

    2 – 3pks – Entenmanns Cinnamon Rolls

    1 dozen – Tia Rosa’s Tortillas

1 loaf of Orowheat Cinnamon Raisin bread

1 pk Bimbo Hot Dog Buns

    1 pk Orowheat Hamburger Buns

Incredible deal, right?  One thing to note:  I used a punchcard for 2 loaves and received 1 loaf for free for spending over $6.  It is amazing though, if I bought all this at King Soopers I would have spent about 3x what I did.  I feel like I need to stress that this bread has never been stale or moldy – usually fresher than Kings.

    I love the D.O.B.S.!

  • Seriously HUGE Deals, Had to Share!

About six months ago I got an email invite to join Groupon. I have seen some really great deals on there! This past week I purchased $21 worth of food for ONLY $10 at Fatburger, which by the way was yummy, save for the extra fries. Next time we will all order burgers only and 1 order of fries to share.

This week I saw a posting on Facebook and it was from a friend who had just purchased a family pack of tickets to a local water park. The deal was $17 for 4 passes. So I jumped on … this site was run by mamapedia and it’s called the sweet deal.

These offers are way to good to pass up sometimes. But do your research, one friend told me that a detail service discounted price was almost the same as another detail shop’s regular price. Some may be just ok, but when the super-duper ones come around, do yourself and your wallet a favor – get in on it!
